SHOPP’s Case Management Program (CMP) is funded by The New York City Department for the Aging. SHOPP CMP focuses on planning, arranging and coordinating in-home services to maximize the functional independence, economic and social wellbeing of Bronx homebound older adults residing in Community Districts 1-6. This service includes a comprehensive in-home assessment by trained professionals for home-delivered meals, EISEP home care and supportive services such as monitoring, advocacy, benefits and entitlements counseling and follow-up on referrals and service provisions.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may be a perfect candidate for a Friendly Visiting Service Volunteer.
Friendly Visiting is a program that matches seniors within our Case Management Program with volunteers who make regular visits in seniors’ homes. The Friendly Visiting Program helps relieve social isolation experienced by many seniors and provides ongoing companionship for both the senior and volunteer. The Friendly Visitor Volunteer Coordinator and Case Manager within the Case Management Program work closely together to identify seniors that may benefit from a Friendly Visitor Volunteer.
What will I do as a volunteer?
The volunteer will engage the senior in stimulating activities such as puzzles, reading books together, listen to music, crocheting, arts, visit a park and other types of invigorating and engaging activities that improves the social health of an isolated older adult. Goal is to help reduces isolation and provide companionship.
What are the requirements to volunteer?
All volunteers must be 18 and older and must be willing to make a six-month friendly visiting commitment, with a goal of a weekly one-hour visit. To maintain the safety of our senior clients, all interested Volunteers must meet stringent requirements to be a Friendly Volunteer that includes:
- An initial screening process -telephone interview, an application, face to face interview and criminal background check
- Reference Checks
- Volunteer Commitment Agreement
- Onboarding Training
- On-going Training & Retention Workshops
